second opionion needed, central victoria

hi all, just wondering if anyone can help with a good plastic or breast surgeon in the central victorian region, I have had some problems with my surgeon and she wont even discuss the fact that one of my margins was not clear, and that she did not order hormone receptors on my pathology and I need that for future descisions with my remaining ovay,  my scars are quite horrendus and when I asked if this could be addressed along with margin issue which is skin only on the exchange surgery she just went spase threw her hands in the air and said she didnt have time for this, well sorry I have time to try and save my own life so she can go and get f*&^%D,hope there is someone out there that might be able to assist ta, so frustrated right now

cheers Narelle

  • Hi Narelle

This surgeon's behaviour is simply unacceptable!  You do not have to endure such treatment - I have worked in the medical field for over 30 years and I'm appalled at your treatment.

I do know a good surgeon who visits Ballarat/Bendigo area - I would trust him with my life!  He was my surgeon for my mastectomy (and for four (4) other operations I've had to have in years gone by) and I'm 99% sure he goes to Central Vic every so often. I will try to find out for sure and send you his name and ocntact details.

If I'm correct, he is absolutely fantastic and everyone - both other doctors and all the nurses I met during my journey - all commented on his wonderful work on my mastectomy and how the scar was the best they had ever seen!

I was not fortunate enough to be able to have reconstruction but if I had been, I'm positive he would have done a fantastic job!

I promise to get back to you early next week.

    Keep positive

    Cheers and luv H

  • Hi Narelle, it's awful that you have to deal with an incompetent surgeon on top of everything else. Can your GP recommend another surgeon? Best of luck. Tammy

  • Hi Narelle, have you tried the Vic cancer council? They can't recommend a practitioner but they should be able to give you a list of those in your area. Then google the crap out of them! D

  • Hi Narelle, I am so sorry to hear your Surgeon is still incapable of listening!!! You need to trust your gut right now and if it is telling you you need someone else don't settle until you get it. I am really happy with my results right now and my scars are mainly just a thin line 15cms each. I would never accept unclear margins and I bet neither would she. In my opinion in the case of DCIS meaning contained in the duct when surgery occurs and a part is removed and therefore cut through. Does this not open the gates so to speak and how long does it take before it then becomes invasive. I realise this is just my opinion but try telling any woman diagnosed with high grade DCIS that unclear margins are acceptable. I sought a second and third opinion so don't feel intimidated doing so. I don't know anyone over there I'm in WA but I did seek a referral from a friend who had seen my surgeon then googled all I could on him. I did have to go private in the end I am lucky as I have private cover. But it has still cost me around $4000 and we are not done yet. I think everything happens for a reason and when in doubt you need to listen to what your body is telling you. I was offered in the public system an excellent surgeon's opinion and would have been happy to have been treated by him had he been able to get me in soon enough. You deserve the best care and I was told by many the best place to receive a multi-disciplinary approach was publicy.

All the best Narelle, don't give up.
