Scarring from radiation

That’s good. It wouldn’t be funny to have some weird reaction early on. My chest area is very faintly pink now - just hoping the strata xrt gel keeps it all from breaking down as time goes on. I keep second guessing myself and wondering if I should use mepital but I feel like I sweat too much to make it work.

yeah ok have done 4. Was quite pink last night but hardly visible this morning. I didn’t ask about mepital I said I was pink after Friday and they said there wasn’t a chance it was from radiation because I’d only had two. Maybe it’s just my imagination 🤷‍♀️

@Newbie3312 just wondering how your skin is going? I had number 14 today - my collarbone is itchy and tender and red but otherwise all good. Did you get the mepital on?

Yeah, its a bastard burn for a few weeks, particularly bad after the treatment finishes. Or was in my case. 2 years later there is no sign apart from a vague difference in skin colour. And no hair in that armpit. Which is sort of OK.

I figured if I was in for a penny, I was in for a pound --my grandmother's description of being committed. Alive with scars or dead with (not so) perfect skin. Mxx

Absolutely 2 sides to everything.  The nurses at my clinic told me that I was to report any concerns straight away.  I didn't have any but appreciated that they were adamant about it.  It meant that I was never left feeling that I shouldn't bother anyone.  Having the film on also meant that the area was checked once a week when it was reapplied.

And following on from @kezmusc ... I have also remained very cautious about sunlight on the area particularly since I love the sunshine.  I invested in a couple of new rashies for the beach - 1 short-sleeved and 1 long-sleeved - giving me a choice for the strength of UV and time spent outside.  I also stash light scarves in both cars (except when my husband decides to clean everything out of them!) just in case I get caught short somewhere - it gives me something to drape over that side to keep any sun off.  You also don't want sunburn if you've had any lymph nodes taken as that can be a potential source of infection.

Hello @Newbie3312. I had my 3rd treatment today, but I’ve got the film on. I had to mention it to my onco, and she said she doesn’t normally use it but I could if I wanted. They didn’t have any in stock so I ordered it myself. Also some nurses didn’t know how to apply it, and it takes ages to put on and then peels off too quickly (I sweat a lot) but so far skin looks same and not sore. But a bit itchy. It’s not too late for you to start using it so mention to your doc that you want to. Good luck x

@ddon thanks. No mention of mepital yet.  Hopefully back to normal in morning then. I thought it felt a bit tingly after first session but figured it was just my imagination then today when I got home it’s quite red and a bit sore. No big stress I was just wondering if it was normal because I thought that didn’t happen until further into it. 

I had number 11 today; the last two nights I have pink skin - especially my collarbone which has had lots of sun damage over the years - but by morning it is normal colour again. No redness prior to that. See how you go over the weekend and talk to your nurse Monday. Hopefully it will settle down. Did you get the mepital on?

Thanks again to everyone for your posts. I decided to go six weeks. I’ve had two treatments and I’ve already started to go red ... is that normal ? Will speak to nurses Monday ...
