Scar revision success

I thought id jot down my experiences in case it helps others.

Lasy year in july i had a skin saving mastectomy. I did this because i had surgery quickly for a large tumour and i didnt know what id want reconstruction wise. It took a fair while to get over this surgery and i went through chemo and radiation.

6 months post radiation i was cleared to have surgery and i chose to go flat because id got used to it all and felt comfortable enough, didnt want more big surgeries but i wanted a tidier look and for my prosthetic ( when i wear it) to sit flatter.

I had surgery friday and im recovering well. Surgery took 1 hr. When i woke up and saw scar i was thrilled. It is a bit bigger (20cm) but flat and tidy. The surgeon took some effort to ensure i was tidy under my arm. Im surprised by how my range of movement has increased and i have a sense of being freed physically. Im not in much pain, have a seroma and today im doing some work. Ill go back to a modified exercise program next week.

Anyway. Im very happy.

  • Well done @MicheleR - so glad you are healing well.   Sounds like your surgeon did a good job.  Great that you've got better range of movement back too.  that is SO important.

Has you surgeon recommended any cream/ointment to minimise the scarring?  Mine suggested Kelocote (comes in small tubes - but a little goes a LONG way ...) and I am sure it helped minimise my scarring!

take care, take it easy as you heal again xx
  • Hi @arpie,

Im not seeing surgeon till Friday. No doubt will discuss potions then.  I tend to heal quite well and not overly concerned.

I had a feeling of relief. It was more nerve wracking in a way having this surgery than mastectomy as I didnt have to have it. Its nice to feel that Im getting there in terms of where i want to be physically. Its important i think to feel comfortable in your own skin - however that can be achieved.
