saying goodbye

Once we had decided a mastectomy was the way to go, I had two weeks before the operation. I have small breasts and would cradle my left breast like one would a small kitten and make peace with it's slatted departure. Now I'm not a new age hippie type of person and I swear I never did this is public, but I guess it' was my way of  grieving for it's something loss.

  • Welcome to this network. I think it's normal to grieve about a body part you are going to lose, especially a breast.I've had a mastectomy and it takes awhile to get used to your altered body image. When I got my prosthesis fitted,I felt more confident but had to alter alot of my clothes(necklines).Hope all is going ok for you - blog back here anytime for info and support. I've just realised that I blogged to "parkrunner"about losing hair and it was more directed to you really.Hope you can find it.
