  • Rachey, thanks for the contact. Your storey sounds similar to mine, I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago and axillary clearance but surgical margins and 3 lymph nodes full of cancer. as we are on a holiday starting tomorrow, I'll be having chemo as soon as we are back then masectomy and radiation.

I had the drain for a week and found it wasnt too bad.

    Its alll overwhelming isnt it!!!!

  • Oh wow, I just had a look on Hat House web site and there are some really lovely hats there.

I haven't even thought about getting some headwear together, ready for chemo.  I have 1 more surgery to go through first.

Good Luck with the chemo, Sandy.

  • I brought alot of cool stuff in preparation for Chemo,...I didnt end up having Chemo in the end, But I still wear alot of the scraves, beanies and hats... I just brought them from a local shopping centre. there are sooooo many shops that sell different styles... if u dont like shopping online!

  • Hi Sandy - Mrs 'El-cheapo' here - I paid two dollars for my 'glittery scarves' in a shop - and make them 'turban' style over a very small beanie (the beanie stops the scarf slipping) - I have had so many compliments from strangers in the street! It is amazing - no expense spared here (lol!).  I didn't bother with a wig (so darn lazy) and with the cold weather I have an assortment of beanies and scarves - much warmer I am thinking because this little scone gets mighty cold! x x x Josie

  • Welcome to the site.  As Rhonda said we are all very supportive on here and are always ready to answer your queries.  I too got a lot of hats etc from The Hat House.  It is online and they send the order/s through very quickly.  They have some great gear.  Good luck.  Also the Cancer Council is always a good place to get information.  They usually have some freebies as well.  I got some nice soft "caps" from them that are great to wear to bed.XLeonie

  • I got mine from the Austin Oncology Day Ward in Melbourne, they were selling them for $3.00 a piece and are made as fundraisers also,  haven't lost the hair yet but did want to be prepared as it is winter!

    Best Wishes,

    Cheryl
