Round 3 feeling very ordinary

I am so glad for you that Friday's Taxol went well.  No 2 tomorrow - hope it is just as good!  My Oncologist told me that the side effects you get (or not) in the first 2-3 sessions are as bad as it is likely to get - great news if you don't have many!!  That is such good news:)

For your dry mouth - 'Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash for Dry Mouth' from the Chemist is amazingly effective. It doesn't foam like an ordinary toothpaste, but does the job, and the mouthwash moistens your mouth for hours.

Instead of Movicol, my chemo nurse suggested to try a few prunes before you go to bed for 1-2 nights after chemo, followed by 1/4 cup bran on your cereal in the mornings for 1-2 days.  It works, and the chemo nurse said pear juice is also helpful although I haven't tried it.  Movicol is always there as a backup if things are grim, but this works for me and fingerscrossed it might for you too.

So pleased you are feeling brighter.  I am 12 hours away from #1 so nerves are jangling. First dose of Dexamethasone is causing a horrible taste in my mouth, blehh. Have to buy some gum tomorrow - I was going to get Extra sugarless anyway to help my teeth.

I laughed when I saw the side effects of the Dex can be trouble sleeping - hah  !!!  Just what I need, more trouble. Mind you my husband made me laugh, he reckons if the chemo causes fatigue the 2 should cancel each other out. :)

So there's my GLAD for today !!!!

Have had the first of my Taxol on Friday. Still 8 more to go...

Side-effects minimal, and loving it at the moment. Great to have a chemo that doesn't give you many side-effects. I have noticed that the Taxol has given me dry eyes.... funny as the FEC gave me watery, wet eyes. Total opposite.

Still have the toilet problem.... still need to take Movicol... gosh I hate the stuff. But apart from eyes and toilet problems...... I can say not much to worry about.

Oh I forgot, also have a dry mouth, so been drinking lots and having lollies.

But I am glad you also, haven't been having too many problems.

Hi Dan, Julie, Trina and Toni,

I hope your experience with Taxol will be as good as mine - only a few side effects after 8 weekly sessions - and nothing drastic.  If your nose gets dry, try Nozoil - the Oncologist recommended it and it  works well. Pawpaw for dry lips and eyedrops for dry eyes are handy next to the bed.

And Trina, I haven't lost my hair yet - but still 10 weeks to go if the body holds up - this will be decided after 12 sessions.  Hopefully can make to 18 as planned.

Hi, yes it  seems that chemo has a cumulative effect on us. The more we have the longer it takes to get over and start feeling better. I have had 3x FEC's and found that each one I took alot onger to get better and felt yuck.

Tomorrow it the start of 9 sessions of Taxol, so hope it is better.

Hope you all get better real soon. We all can relate to the yuck feeling.... not fair .
