Hi Maggs,
I had a 2 day wait for core biopsy results about 6 weeks ago, and it seemed so long. I was just having a follow up mammogram and ultrasound, 9 months after first diagnosis. I had already booked in to have my second breast off and the start of reconstruction, so this was really just to give my surgeon up to date results. I felt no lump, and my mammo was clear, just like it was 9 months ago, but the ultrasound found a lump, that the radiologist said looked suspicious. It looked to me just like the one that was cancerous last year. I couldn't believe I was going through this all again, especially since after months of serious thought, I had decided that a double mastectomy was for me. Anyway, my week of waiting turned into 2 days , when the Dr
received the results earlier than expected and decided
to ring me and tell me that all was ok this time, rather
make me wait till my appointment with him a few days
later. I so appreciated his consideration at this time. My
breast care nurse reminded me of the fact that 9 out 10
breast lumps are benign. Try and hold onto that bit of
info, because it is true. I understand though, how hard it
is not to jump to the wrong conclusion, as all this breast
cancer stuff is scary and all too fresh in our minds.
Good luck with the results. I tried hard to keep busy
while waitng and had lots of coffees with friends,
especially breast cancer friends, as they all understood
my anxiety. I'm now 2 weeks post op, and I have
absolutely no regrets about my decision to opt for a
prophylactic mastectomy. It gave my plastic surgeon an even area to work his reconstruction on, and though only early days, and with only 200mls in each tissue expander, i'm very happy with how it is all looking. My next infil of 100mls will be next Wednesday, then weekly till I'm happy with the size.
Good luck for the next week while you wait to have your test and results, and remember, that most lumps are normal. I will be thinking of you and saying a prayer for you. Love Chris xxx
