Results from Surgery 02/07/2013
Ray and Lucy attend the surgeon appointment today 02/07/2013. It has been anxious wait however as mentioned in previous blog we were all thinking positively about it. Liu Ming advised that the surgery was successull and they had removed the tumour. She explained that that the tumour was smaller than first suspected and was classed as Stage I, Grade 2. From what I understand this means that it was very early cancer that was intermediately agressive. She advised that she got good margins, which she was happy with however she could not do anything more surgically as it was so close to the skin. They will discuss Mum's case in the multidisciplinary team tomorrow however Liu Ming predicts Mum will have a 6 week course of raidation and be put on hormone tablets for 5 years. The multidisciplinary team meet on the first Wednesday of every month to discuss the current cancer patients around the border. The team consists of Surgeons, GP's, Oncologists Nurses (inclunding McGrath Foundation Nurse) etc. Together they will decide what treatment options will best suit each patients circumstances. If they decide anyting differently for Mum tomorrow duyring the meeting than Liu Ming will make contact. If not, a medical oncologist and radiation oncologist will make contact soon to make apointments. Although treatment is still daunting and much of the process (& side affects) are still unknown, the news delivered today was the best considering the circumstances. We celebrated the the positive news with a casserole night at Mums/Grandmas. It was good to see everybody smiling again. Xx Catherine
