I had a mastectomy and axillary dissection which was all sent to pathology and the 8/25 was discovered.  Huge shock as I found the lump in my right breast myself after having a mishap with my zoom lens.  It wasn't tight enough on my monopod and as I was trying to get out of the car it swung around (1.5 kilo) and hit my right breast.  It hurt so much and at that moment I thought "I hope this hasn't done real damage".  Within weeks I had a huge lump in my breast and then under my arm.

I am relieved on two fronts - that the margins were clear and that all body scans came back clear.  The doctors while I was in hospital told me I would have have both chemo and radiation to "mop up" any microscopic cells in my blood stream.  

As much as I loved work I, at least from yesterday I am quite enjoying being home and keeping the house the way I want it to be.  Not doing too much mind you, but at least I can keep it tidy and can prepare the dinner.  My husband usually cooks but now that I am not as fatigued I am getting in there and to give him a break.  It will be soon enough that I will be back on the lounge again being waited on which I struggle with.

Did they decide to do the masectomy after your nodes came back wth cancer in the 8/25, did you have 3 surgeries all up?

Good to hear that the chemo hasn't had any ill effects on your health. Be kind to your self regarding work and if you can take as much time as you need to heal. I have always been a workaholic and this has thown me for a loop but I am listening to the great advise I have been given by all of you lovely ladies.

Yes I am very lucky as my employer has always assisted in anyway as far as work life balance.I am fortunate enough to be able to work from home so that is an added bonus. Not that I  will be volunterring to do that this time around, trying to be kinder to myself.

Great advise one treatment at a time and not thinking way ahead like I usually do...its engrained in me as i am a project manager and this has thrown me in that way.

Good news that the rest of your body is cancer free.  I competely understand the relief of that.  I had a mastectomy on 20 Nov, 2013 and 8/25 nodes were positive for cancer, 4 mm margin clear.  I am Triple Negative so it is chemo and radiation for me.  All scans reveiled that the rest of my body is clear.

I have had my first round of chemo and I have been fortunate in that the only side effect has been  fatigue and I can now sense that my hair is about to fall out.  However, I am at the end of my second week and feeling srtonger and happier again now.  

I thought I would try to go back to work but now feel that I probably won't, rather take it day by day and really look after myself.  Staying at the beach in your caravan sounds idyllic and I hope you to won't have too many side effects and have peace of mind during your treatment.

At least not having to worry about work will give you some peace of mind, it makes it so much easier with a good employee, at least you will have the time to concentrate on yourself and your health and getting through the bc. Regards adean
