Recycling
Our Group has a small collection of used breast prosthesis, padded forms and bras. Does anyone know of a contact so we can send these items on to someone less fortunate. I tried the McGrath Nurse in Darwin but she advised Aboriginal women don't wear bras and obviously have no need for a prosthesis.
I welcome any feedback!

- Sharon_LeighMemberHi, I just found this post on Recyling. There is a woman called Lily De Santis of Lily Bliss to You (mobile Breast /nipple prostheses and mastectomy bra fitting service) who has been travelling to Fiji and Recyling Australian women's Breast protheses and bras. Lily is going again to the Oncology unit at one of the hospitals there in 2015 (possibly May). Here is a link to an email following Lily (and contact Heather) trip there (with photo) in 2014. https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?cid=E0E988082D071F3E&resid=E0E988082D071F3E%212968&app=Word&authkey=%21ADNI8oZnR2ZO3r0 Here is a BCNA post I wrote in 2013 about Lily. http://www.bcna.org.au/user/10624/blog/67852 Rgds, Sharon
Hi Kristen
I sent all the bras off by post to Killara and the prosthesis off to the Victoria branch of Project Uplift. It appears they send off a container load a couple of times a year to Fiji, The Solomons or wherever they feel the need. We had about 50 bras and 9 prosthesis from our Group - that was pretty good and that was without any advertising for recycling - it got them out of my spare bedroom. Good luck!

Just what i wanted to know. I know ladies at support group who suddenly have to change to pocketed bras due to masectomies would love to send their lightly worn unpocket bras somewhere useful. i also know a few ladies who have had reconstruction or who have passed away & alll have given their prothesis to the breast care nurse & last I heard they were still sitting under her desk. i shall let them know & maybe if enough it could be worth a trip to Killara.

I have a heap of old but good bras that no longer fit... and so do some of my friends... looks like it's collection time... I've always thought about it now I'm motivated to do something about it.
Thanks for that - we have our meeting next week so I will talk to my ladies

Project Uplift contacted me within 3hours of receiving my email. I will be sending the prosthesis to them via a lady in sw Victoria,it will then be sent overseas later this year. They collect bras also, especially larger sizes, they just cant get enough.
Im glad it will go to someone who needs it,
Annie

What a wonderful idea try Project Uplift.
I know this organisation collects bras.. not sure if they are interested in 'other stuff' but it is worth contacting them and asking. Their web address is http://www.upliftbras.org/
According to their web site
"Currently NSW is collecting for the Phillipines.
Vic. is collecting for Fiji and Solomon Islands, Vic. also collects ANY fabric nappies."Good luck and let us know how you go.
