Hi Dee,
No I'm not a volunteer but plan to apply for community liaison officer with BCNA..I'm currently working part time as an early childhood nurse but am planning to retire later in the year.I feel like it's time to enjoy life a bit more. I may live for a long time but who knows.2 bouts of bcancer kinda knocks your confidence(not to mention 3 operations on a broken ankle inbetween)
I am so glad that all your body scans were clear.Sounds like you've got your head around making decisions.I do hope surgery goes well for you. It's not uncommon to get a fliud build up(seroma)under your scarline.I had to get syringed off twice a week for 5wks post op.So don't worry if this happens.
Yes,I too have used up leave having surgeries and treatments over the years.Great holidays hey! However,I am very fortunate that I have a supportive husband and my 2 girls are through uni and have good paying jobs. I don't see why you can't get sickness benefits from centrelink-surely cancer treatments qualify.
Try and track down a breast care nurse before you have your op.She can arrange a soft breast form and a free Berlei post op bra for you.I still wear mine as it's so comfortable.I got fitted for the prosthesis about 6weeks after the op.when swelling had settled. It is very natural looking and no one can tell.
I cannot imagine going through chemo again. It was so awful. But as we know, best not to think about it yet. It's good to work ,keeps your mind off yourself.Wishing you a safe op and a speedy recovery.
Tonya xx
