Reconstruction

Hi, through my journey with breast cancer I never found before and after photographs of breast reconstruction. I don't know if this will help but now that I have finally completed my reconstruction I thought that I would upload the before and after. My new breast is very comfortable and I don't have the pain that I experienced with the mastectomy, and I'm so pleased with the final result. I had the Free Diep Flap Reconstruction with the tissue taken from my stomach. Now that it's all completed I am getting ready for a show and looking forward to summer.

  • Hi Jane

I was on the waiting list at The Alfred Hospital for a year and my surgeon was Mr E Ek. He does private as well.

I think I've made a mistake with the reconstruction page and posted it several times by mistake, sorry about that.

    Cheers, Viv

  • Hi Viv, as you've probably noticed by now Annie from BCNA has moved your post and I've requested that it go to the Breast Reconstruction group, so hopefully it will appear there soon as I'm sure it will inspire lots of women seeking reconstruction to know that the outcome can be so lovely.

Do you mind me asking who did the surgery and where? Jane xx

  • Thanks Louie,  I was just so relieved to finally have it all done and also proud of the surgeon's skills which is why I decided to post the picture. I don't think I will go with the tattooing I really am happy with the way it is, although my daughter would love me to!  Cheers, Viv

  • Hi Jane

I wasn't sure where to put it, if you can move it to the more private group that would be a lot better, many thanks. They are amazing these surgeons, I'm very grateful to him. Cheers, Viv

  • Hi Viv, your reconstruction  looks beautiful. Thank you for sharing, this will be an inspiration to many women.

Will you be going for nipple reconstruction and tattooing?

  • Hi Vivie,

I'm not sure if you intended to put this post into the main forum, or if you wanted it in the private Breast Reconstruction group pages? If so, I can ask Annie at BCNA to move it for you if you like :-)

I agree, realistic before and after photos of breast reconstruction can be difficult to come by, which was one reason why Louie set up the breast reconstruction group so that women can safely share their photos, talk about their experiences and ask those questions that never seem to appear in the medical handouts! Also, as a member of the breast reconstruction group you can post your photos and other members of the group can see them by looking up the All Topics Index on the front page of the BR group. Clicking on the All Topics Index brings up a large number of different topics, including Photo Stories for the various types of reconstruction. We are always looking for new stories and contributions so we would love you to post your reconstruction experience / story within the group as there are lots of new ladies joining each week, many of whom are interested in DIEP reconstruction.

Finally, just to say your reconstruction looks amazing!! We are so lucky to have such skilled surgeons available and it looks as though you've found a great one! Best wishes, Jane xx

  • Thank you very much Robyn. It's been a long journey but now I feel I can move forward. Cheers, Viv
