Reconstruction this Thursday -Diep flap

Hi Ladies,

Well Thursday is going to be a big day for me and I'm trying very hard to keep the nerves and anxiety at bay. I will be having a right breast mastectomy (left one done in March) and reconstruction of both breasts - DIEP flap ie tummy tissue.  It will be an 8-10 hour operation and then 7-10 days in hospital. At the beginning of this journey I had 3 operations and it all happened so quickly that I really didn't have time to think about it. With this one I have had weeks of waiting and too much time to think about it. The good thing is that I have great confidence in my surgeons so I just keep trying to focus on that.

It's a six week recovery so I should be fighting fit by Christmas. It will be good to have it over and done with and start the new year afresh. Bring on 2012 because 2011 has not been much fun.

If there is anyone out there who has had this type of surgery I would love to hear from you.

Take care everyone

Love
Ann-Marie xx

  • Hi Maria

Thanks for thinking of me. I am getting better every day. I have just blogged about my surgery.  I noticed you have posted a new blog too so I will go to that and read all your news now.

  • Hi ladies

Thanks for your support. I am feeling pretty good this morning, just about to have my cup of tea and toast.  They will be operating in the afternoon so I wont be finished until very late tonight. It will be a long wait for my husband and family.

Goodbye expander, hello flat tummy and new boobs.

Will be sure to let you know how I go.

    love

  • Good luck and will be thinking of you on Thursday, hope all goes well for you. I seem to remember one of the ladies on this site called Cathy had the diep op. She ended up with her old appendix scar on her new boob.Apart from that she was very happy with the results and she recovered well. The surgery seems very daunting but then so does going through life lopsided or being worried about breast cancer again. We have to make so many tough decisions along this bc journey, none of them are very nice.I hope this surgery is the last tough decision you ever have to make and that 2012 will be your year to shine.
