Reconstruction ?

Hi
I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I have a strong family history of breast cancer (my mum, maternal aunt and darling younger sister who was diagnosed at 36 and passed away with in Dec 2011 aged 46).
I have just been diagnosed with LCIS. After consultations with numerous doctors and surgeons, it seems to me that my only sensible option is to have a preventative double mastectomy. My greatest fear is to be told they have found cancer and then have to go down that same dreadful path as my sister. While I have been really shell shocked with this diagnosis hot on the heels of my sister's death, I am grateful to have this warning in the form of LCIS and to be able to choose preventative treatment (a luxury my sister didn't have!)
So now I'm considering the alternatives for reconstruction - whether implants or a DIEP reconstruction. The surgeons tell me I am a perfect candidate for DIEP reconstruction. I am fortunate to be able to afford the costs and am at a break in my career so have the time to be able to recover without work pressures.
So I feel like DIEP reconstruction will be the right choice for me because I'd prefer to use my own tissue rather than synthetic implants, but I am a bit worried about the pain involved and long recovery time. On the other hand I think I might as well do it for a better long term, (more natural looking?) outcome.
Does anyone have any comments or advice for me in my decision making. Many thanks in advance. It is so good to hear from those of you that have been faced with these same challenges!
