This is my first time on this network. My recent bone scan has shown 2 possible fractured ribs on the left side- where I had extensive radiotherapy. Now my oncologist needs to find the cause. CT scan tomorrow. Can those with similar experiences give me some guidance on what to expect?

  • Thanks, Tonya.

I'm having a CT scan of the ribs as oncologist said" We have to know why this happened". I was unaware that this had happened except around Christmas I had a new pain on the left side behind my shoulder blade which  now I know what it was. By the time of my appointment it had improved a lot and I almost didn't mention it!

Am finding these radiology doctors won't tell you much. The one last Monday just said " I haven't looked at the pictures yet". But he had. Will probably have to wait till Monday when I see my oncologist but today will definitely ask generic type questions about all the possibilities this scan can show.

It is so useful hearing, and learning , from the experience of others.

  • Welcome to this website where we all support each other.Sorry to hear that you might have fractured ribs.Did you have a fall or any hard knocks? Are you having a ct scan of your ribs?I'm not quite sure what you are having scanned and what your doctor is looking for.Sorry I'm not much help but I would advise you to write down any questions you have and "fire"them at the person doing your scan tomorrow. Hope it all goes ok for you and let us know how you get on.
