Radium

Hello, it has been awhile since I've visited here. Chemo is over, yepee...food starts to taste normal and enjoyable again. I really did not have a too bad a run, no nausea or stomach problems, just the rash on the face and chemo brain full time. I do now feel really weak in the muscles in my upper thighs and in my knees which has affected my daily walks. I have now decided to have radium after alot of deliberatiion because of the autoimmune disease which affects my skin. I went to the Royal Brisbane on Friday to get measured up...what an interesting process!!! I start 5 weeks of radium on 25 Sept and go in the evening and get the free parking slot which is a bonus...I feel for all of you who have to travel long distances for treatment. Hope you are all travelling as smoothly as is possible on this journeyx

  • I used the parking on Level 4, didn't pay for any parking at all for the whole 7 weeks.  It was so good, they certainly don't miss you with the parking charges! The fatigue is awful, hey? I never really understood what exactly fatigue was until after chemo when it hit me, it's quite debilitating. Hope all goes well for you, sending big hugs,

    Hazel xx

  • Hi Hazel, thank you for that update on the RBH. I was wondering what the routine was like at night time. They tell me there is free parking on Level 4. Did you use this or did you pay for parking? It is comforting to hear that your jelly legs and brain sorted themselves out after awhile. I was wondering if and when it would settle down. I am feeling the fatigue now that I didn't get during chemo. Strange!! Maryxxx

  • I went to the Royal Brisbane for radiotherapy as well. I chose nights and it was so good not to have to find a parking space. They were excellent with appointments running on time, the longest time I waited was 15 minutes. Sometimes I was checking in with the receptionist when they called my name! After chemo my upper legs were so weak, climbing stairs was very difficult. My chemo brain hung around for quite some time too, but it does all get better, just takes more time than I expected. Hope it all goes well for you,

    Hazel xx

  • Hi Robyn, good hearing from you too. Thank you for that update on your knees and chemo. Sorry to hear that you had to endure those months of pain but good that they got their energy and strength back. I will hang in there. I will keep you posted. Maryxx

  • Hi Marg, good to hear from you. You're so right, I feel like I have been rolled over by a truck many times over and I can't imagine what I'm going to feel like when I finish radium. I have decided to take next year off work to recover and I'm glad I did. You're right about the frutstration, I guess I will need to be patient for a long time to come. Enjoy that cruise, you have earned it. Maryxx

  • It is nice to hear from you :) I had problems with my knees when chemo finished.I loved bike riding and walking, and every time I exerted myself,my knees would ache like mad.It lasted a couple of months, and then it just went away.No trouble since.keep in touch.xxxRobyn
