Radiotherapy burns hospitalisation
I’m wondering if anyone has been admitted to hospital for treatment for radiotherapy burn treatment? As I live alone and the excessive pain, skin breakdown and dehydration- I feel as I have private health cover - could I ask to be admitted for burn dressings, pain medication etc ? I’ve so had enough if i still have 2 -3 weeks of this - doing it all on my own? Would love to hear if anyone has done this . I’d go to hospital now for a rest from this nightmare.

- Louise64MemberYes -started with StrataXRT then some dermaid fir dry sections, but then over a weekend nothing worked Flamigel, QV intensive , MooGoo...now on Flamizine and QV. It has been awful but so much better already today. I did everything right ..but now have proactive, experienced nurse and confident in my care and progress now.
- RomlaMemberWonderful to hear you have now got support to help you back on track.Pardon me asking but what emollients have you been using . Where I had my treatment they supplied Calendula cream which I found terrific, many on here are keen on Moo goo. Sorbolene cream is dreadful.I am very fair so creamed up a minimum of 3 times daily - and more when my breast was inflamed and sore. Also guess you know not to cream up before treatment. Also UV and warmth activated my soreness so be wary of them .
- Louise64Member@Caz1 as on my own I find hard to do dressings as need mirror and not enough hands. At least new nurse has offered I could come everyday- have to radiology oncologist tomorrow- so will see what she thinks. You’re so lucky to have had your husband. My mum died of breast cancer and dad retired at 59 and cared for her for 22 years. I’m home alone-10 weeks now- not driving - so taxi everyday . Better than doing myself. Onwards and upwards 🤞🤞🤞🤞
- Caz1MemberEveryone is different. In my opinion Rads was the worst. I found chemo a walk in the park in comparison! And surgery was fine too. My hubby was doing my post rad dressings every day, he deserved a gold medal as it was pretty mucky and yucky :s I just used to cry as it was so painful. I sent a photo to the radiation oncologist who got me to come in every few days and get it checked/ dressed.
He assured me it would miraculously start healing about 14 days after finishing. It was pretty hard to believe but he was correct! Hang in there!
Caz - Louise64MemberThanks @Caz1 I’ve spent last 2 weeks on Targin and Endone and still couldn’t sleep for the pain. New nurse has completely turned situation around. I’m having daily wound dressings and feel valued and listened to. I’m too scared to do dressings myself as want to get back to work. I’m 10 weeks post-op for only DCIS - if this is stage 0 and not cancer - I pray for all the women on this site and what they so courageously go through every day. I’m not that brave. Still weeks away from returning to work. I honestly thought on weekend I’d be in hospital this week- so lucky to now have my treatment on track. Take care of yourself- if I actually get real breast cancer I don’t know now if I’d pursue treatment. 😢
- Caz1Member@Louise64, I can relate, I was in agony for rads burning. Had to take panadeine forte it was so bad. Keep an eye on it, I ended up with cellulitis and was admitted to hospital for 12 days. I’m glad you are on the right track now. It would be tough dealing with it on your own.
hope you are ok,

- Louise64MemberBetter - have nursing leader take over my treatment- feel better already after appointment for dressing today . She is fantastic. I should have spoken up but didn’t. Now back on track 👍
