I’m wondering if anyone has been admitted to hospital for treatment for radiotherapy burn treatment? As I live alone and the excessive pain, skin breakdown and dehydration- I feel as I have private health cover - could I ask to be admitted for burn dressings, pain medication etc ? I’ve so had enough if i still have 2 -3 weeks of this - doing it all on my own? Would love to hear if anyone has done this . I’d go to hospital now for a rest from this nightmare.

Good news- the centres nursing leader has taken over- much better today. Excellent care, wound dressings Flamizine and Mepilex Ag. Confident now in the care I’m receiving. Thanks for everyone’s help 👍🥰

If it's breaking down this early on I urge you to go to an emergency department and let them know also your personal situation. Some people react more than others and if breaking down it is a risk of infection.

Everyone is different. In my opinion Rads was the worst. I found chemo a walk in the park in comparison! And surgery was fine too. My hubby was doing my post rad dressings every day, he deserved a gold medal as it was pretty mucky and yucky :s I just used to cry as it was so painful. I sent a photo to the radiation oncologist who got me to come in every few days and get it checked/ dressed. He assured me it would miraculously start healing about 14 days after finishing. It was pretty hard to believe but he was correct! Hang in there! Caz

That really isn't good enough.I am guessing you could be admitted to a Private Hospital for 'rehab' - but check with your health fund first to see if you are 'covered' - you may need an 'admission request' from your GP or Rad Onc to 'be covered'? If you are in extreme pain and not well, you could just ring 000 - and then you'd be taken to a public hospital.I hope that you can get the care that you obviously deserve! xx

good to hear @Louise64 that you are on the improve. Its hard to speak out sometimes, just because you just dont know what is normal or not with this dam disease! and we just soldier on. :smiley:

Better - have nursing leader take over my treatment- feel better already after appointment for dressing today . She is fantastic. I should have spoken up but didn’t. Now back on track 👍

@Louise64, I can relate, I was in agony for rads burning. Had to take panadeine forte it was so bad. Keep an eye on it, I ended up with cellulitis and was admitted to hospital for 12 days. I’m glad you are on the right track now. It would be tough dealing with it on your own.
