Radiotherapy and dizziness

Hi there, I started this blog originally for friends and family, however have not used it at all, and now feel the need of support and to be in touch with other women who have/are experiencing similar issues, or who might be in the same stage of treatment. I have just started my fourth and final week of Radiotherapy. Hurrah! However, not only have I been coping with the fatigue, I have had very intense vertigo/ dizziness since my sixth treatment. Have you/ are you experiencing something similar? It is pretty distressing. They have done blood tests and neurological tests which are clear, and they say that it has nothing to do with the radiotherapy, but my intuition tells me different. Anyone out there heard or experienced a tithing similar. Tam

  • Hi tam, i know your blog is a bit old but wanted to let you know of my experiences. i haven't had breast cancer but did have non-Hodkins Lymphoma. it involved the lymph nodes under and around my eye so i had radiation (15 daily treatments) directly over the eye in 2012. In April of last year I woke in the night (a week before my holiday to Bali!) with really bad vertigo, vomiting and feeling really out of control. I went to hospital and had a brain scan which was clear and suffered numerous episodes of vertigo on and off. i got in touch with an ear specialist who did a Hall Pike's procedure where they put you on a table and move your head and hit the back of your head to shift the crystals that control balance. 3 visits of this and i was feeling much better (but sad to have to cancel my holiday). i was ok til it came back again a couple of months ago. My oncologist says the radiation went nowhere near the crystals that control my balance but my specialist seems to think that it definitely is due to my radiation. basically he said that normally this only occurs like i had in people with head trauma such as from a hit to the head in a car accident. I am at a loss because it's very expensive to go and have this treatment done periodically and basically i don't know when and where it will occur again. i constantly feel fuzzy in the head and if i look down or up or turn suddenly i get it sometimes. it makes me feel sick and scared for my future. i'm 51 and don't want to have this forever. i have had "bandaid" treatments that really have helped but it has not gone away. The fact that my oncologist makes it clear that "it's not their fault" bothers me too - i don't want to sue them or anything. Hell, they got rid of my lymphoma (so far, so good) but i just would like some answers. I hope you get this message and that you are well and happy. Best wishes to you...
