Radiation begins

Hi All, It has been a rollercoaster of a ride the last 6 weeks, but I seem to be coming out the other end ok. I was an emotional mess there for a bit and found it hard to just motivate myself to do anything, but like everything we move forward and on to the next step. So Tuesday my radiation begins and to be honest I am excited. Not your, its my birthday kind of excited mind you, but I am pleased to be moving into the final stage of my treatment. The last 9 months have been arduous, the toll its taken on my body and my emotional life has been incredible but I feel I am seeing light at the end now. The pain from my Nepfrectomy is under control, the nausea and vomitting has all but subsided and I am actually happy to do housework and cooking again! Soladies its onwards and upwards for me and soon I shall having glowing breasts or at least a nice newly tanned breast. LOL. cheers Donna

    Hi Donna, I found Radiation, although an inconvenience to go in each day, was a breeze compared to chemotherapy.  I was a lucky one, I had medium burn, and mild discomfort.  I used lots of thick cream and went without a bra when I could.  I was given a folder with info and a dvd by my Radiologist, and told what to expect.  I had worse sunburn in my youth to be honest.  My breast is almost back to same colour a couple of weeks later.  The people in the waiting room are friendly, the staff were awesome, and the Radiation is fast.  Its the same as an X Ray, you dont feel anything.  Staying still is the tricky bit !  Wear easy clothes to get in and out of.  Good luck from Bel xx

    I am doing my treatment at Peter Mac Morrabbin. I hope that your treatment goes smoothly and that it isn't too hard on you.

    Congratulations on making it through to this stage and I hope radiation goes smoothly. It certainly has been a roller coaster ride for you with the additional kidney cancer to deal with as well. Your positive attitude has got you through a lot of hurdles. It's funny what we learn to appreciate when we get thrown off course with this whole cancer experience. Your comment about being happy to do housework and cooking again makes me smile. I just commented to a friend about how frustrating it is that I can't just jump in the car and race down to grab a few groceries because of side effects of Chemo. I then shook myself and said I never ever thought I would miss grocery shopping! You've reached the downhill run to the finish of treatment now so hope this passes quickly and no bumps on the way.
