Radiation about to start. Best creams, tips etc ??

Hi to all.

I've been very quiet my end. Still temps some days, redness in breast almost gone, but can flare up and dow. It's been 3 months today since the 2nd op. It's been a long battle it feels. Still got fair amount of pain in arm.

Started on Tamoxifen 16 days ago. Had fair bit nausea, cramps first 10 days, seems to be settling. Fair bit of fatigue, but feel like that normally and since the ups.

My moods been up and down, quite snappy about things. Taken myself off Angus chaste berry which I've taken for last 5 years for severe PMT (PMMD) so here's hoping and praying I'm okay without it.

I'm guessing my body will be doing all kinds of stuff on Tamoxifen, lol. Hopefully though I can keep myself balanced, happy & healthy through it all.

I would love some feedback on creams used and tips on keeping my breast as healthy as possible through radiation sessions. 20 sessions starting next Wednesday.

What cream works, when do you apply etc, how did you cope.

Appreciate all responses. Hope your all travelling well. xxx

The udder cream is the one, it's lovely to use. Warm wishes, Trace ??????

  • Thanks Trace ??

Which Moo goo as there are so many different ones I've found out since a trip to chemist, lol.

    Cheers, Karen ??

  • Hi Kazza, good to hear from you and here's hoping the Tamoxifen doesn't bother you too much.

I used Moo Goo (lots of it) for my radiotherapy treatment and it is best if you start applying it as soon as possible, even before treatment starts to give your skin the best possible chance. It is lovely and soothing. I also used a sorbolene body wash and a cool washer to relieve the redness / soreness.

My skin went well until the end of the very last week when a few areas broke down and the nurse applied Pure Paw Paw ointment (black container) to those areas and it had to be dressed daily for about a week post radiation. I also used some nurofen during that week to take the edge off. Thankfully it did start to heal pretty quickly after that and so it was back to the Moo Goo to keep the area moisturised.

I was interested to read Piak's post a day or so ago about the protective film her radiation oncologist is using and may be this is something you could talk to your doctor about to see if it is an appropriate thing for you? Best wishes, Jane xx

  • Hi Kazza

i used solugel after radiotherapy. A good tip the nurse used was to wrap glad wrap around my chest with the solugel smothered underneath. I kept this on overnight. It soothed it a bit for me.  I was burnt to smithereens. It's like a microwave. Cooked from the inside with the blisters coming through towards the end.

    All the best

  • Hi Kazza, all the best with your rads, sounds like you have had a rough time up to now. I start my first of 30 sessions next week so interested in what the others have to say. I have been given some Moo Goo udder cream so will start with that. Maria

Hi Kazza, I used moo goo and that is soothing and keeps your skin nice. I had 24 rads and the time went really quickly. You'll smash it Kazza. Big hugs, Trace ????

  • Hi Kazza,

I just used plain sorbolene cream for my radiation.   I put it on after my shower in the morning and again before I went to bed at night.   I had 20 radiation sessions with no problems until about a week after when the skin broke and I needed to use zinc cream for a few days.

I hope that helps.  Radiation wasn't all that bad for me :)

    cheers

    Mira
