Prosthesis fittings

Hi girls. i have a question. When is the best time to be fitted for your prosthesis? I was told by my breast care nurse to wait until after chemo and your scar etc is stettled down. I also believe there are a few different sorts, like gel or ones for swimming etc. I have been told there are two places in Bundaberg to be fitted for a prosthesis. I like the idea of sports bras but cant get in or out of them as my arm is a bit stiff and i have to get my hubby to help get my in and out of my bra's and some tops. I'm thinking a sports bra with velcro on the shoulder straps and at the sides (underarms)would be a benefit and easier to get in and out of. What do you all think? Opinions welcome. I do wear my Mcgrath soft form bra that i received after my mastectomy but can only stand it for about an hour or two. I pretty much have not worn a bra since end oct last year.

    Thanks Sarah & Tonya, amoena silicon seem to be the way to go. I have the berli bra from the breast nurse and another on i picked up at Big W. I find I can only wear them for a few hours. I'm going to look for some sexy ones coz these ones are very ordinary and definatly no sexy or really confortable.I also need new swimmers as my last ones have fallen to bits. Can anyone get into a sports bra? I cant.  Also do the prosthesis bounce around and rub or are they stuck to your chest wall. 

    Sarah I am 36DD too. I feel very loopsided.

    Hi Chrissy,

    I have an amoena silicon prosthesis too. It's great- am more comfortable with it on than not.I have various styles of amoena bras and they are comfy too. I sewed a pocket inside my swimsuit and just insert a soft breast form.It's not like I swim alot so it does the job.I had a fantastic lady who fitted me and it was about 6weeks after surgery. I think you have to find the right bra then the prosthesis will sit well.I think there is a very limited range to choose from.I got all mine at Myers.Good luck.
