Prostheses vs Reconstruction for Small Breasted Women

Hello again, thank you for making your comments on my other post. I appreciate your decisions and understanding of reconstruction. I am still feeling like a reconstruction may not be for me. I am small breasted and not quite sure. Any comments from women with small breasts may be helpful as I would think an external prostheses wouldn't be so bad. Thank you, Renae

  • Hello Ladies,

Just would like to tell you all THANK YOU!! I have felt better recently and I think your positive comments have helped me. I saw a friend of a friend recently who has one breast and a prosthesis. She looked just fine, it wasn't shocking or anything. She is happy about her prosthesis and is bigger than I am, I think I'll end up being a 2 or maybe 3 in the prosthesis size. I think I'll manage hsut fine. Warmth and love, Renae

  • Hi Renae,

I'm a small-breasted person (I would have been an A or even AA post-chemo) & have no regrets about not reconstructing, even tho I'm also relatively young. Actually I'm kinda proud of my scar and flat side. My partner says that women with two breasts look funny to him now.  (bless him!)

The important thing is not to be rushed. Think it over, see how you feel, and make a decision when you're ready.

  • My girlfriend who had a mastectomy is VERY small breasted and she is happy with her small prosthesis. She has no problems with it. I'm about a 16c and I don't have discomfort or problems with my prosthesis.I think it depends on the bra I'm wearing cos with 2 of them the prosthesis gravitates to the middle and I have to adjust myself. It's been 2 years so maybe I need to go up a size. Anyway,I'm in no hurry for reconstruction.Live with your prosthesis for awhile Renae and see how you feel-there is no rush.

  • Hi Renae, I was a small breasted woman. My bra size was a 14B. I managed for 9 months with a prosthesis, and it weighed about 290g. I had no problems with it slipping around or feeling uncomfortable, but decided in the end to have reconstruction, as I also wanted the other breast off. I was also missing my cleavage, even though it was only a little cleavage. Smaller prostheses seem to be easier to manage, as they don't weigh too much. We are all different, and you need to do what is right for you, not what you think others think is right for you. Good luck with your decisions. Love Chris xx
