Preventative surgery options?

Hi everyone,

I'm very new to this group and a little apprehensive as to what to write??? I have recently found out I am BRCA2 positive and so is my sister so we will be travelling this journey together. We are both having double masectomy's and I'm debating which type of reconstruction to have.

I am also having my ovaries and tubes out as soon as can be scheduled. I have read a few posts on here and to be honest I am amazed at the strength and determination of some of you brave ladies and I'm hoping some of you may have some advice to share.........looking forward to hearing from you.

xx

    Hi DebbieKC,

It looks like some of the women in the online network have already shared some valuable experiences with you and I was going to jump in and tell you about the private 'Breast reconstruction' group ( http://www.bcna.org.au/group/61026 ) but it looks like you have found it already :-)

I hope you get the support you need to make some of the difficult decisions ahead for you and your sister.

If you need a hand finding your way around - give me a shout.

  • Hi Leisa

Thanks for your reply.....I think i'm leaning towards same recon as you as that is what the plastic surgeon has recommended. It is such a huge op that i guess i just want to be well informed.

I figure as may as well have the tummy tuck too and make the most out of the op!!!!

    Good luck to you too

  • Hi Debbie,

Firstly I'm sorry to hear about you and your sister having the gene but you both will be fine.

I've just had surgery for a double mastectomy and for me reconstruction will be 2 years and I've decided to have a tummy tuck where they use the skin from my tummy to make new boobies and I also get the flat tummy I've always wanted.

Good luck and hope to chat with you soon
