Pre op sponges ?

Hi

I had my pre op stuff today.

Went well, they've put me on medication next week to help me cope better after I come out of surgery. Believing and praying for my airways to be a lot better this time.

A question though. They gave me this anti bacterial sponge to wash my body including my hair the morning of surgery. I had surgery last year and didn't ha e to do this.

My problem is with allergies, itchy skin and scalp I'm not really keen to put all this on me and find out I can't take the smell etc.

I can't stand so many smells, Glen 20, air freshener, some perfumes, deoerantd, chemicals etc. So at this point I'm thinking of only doing the chest arm are etc. And tying my hair right back after washing or the night before. What were others experience with this new sponge thing. Welcome feedback. ??

  • Hi Kazza,

I don't have much advice on that one really, sorry.  But let your doctor know of your allergies.  As Paula has already said, every surgeon and hospital can have different procedures in place for infection control.  Personally, I didn't have any special sponge or wash that I had to prepare myself prior to surgery.

All the best with surgery.  Thinking of you,

  • Hi Kazza,

As you will read on here every surgeon is different and each hospital has slightly different protocols. It might be worth giving your surgeons rooms a call and mentioning your allergies. My surgeon required me to buy sapoderm soap from the chemist and wash myself with it for a couple of days pre-op and of course on the day of the op. I just washed my hair with normal shampoo.

    Good luck with your surgery.
