Post Chemo Fatigue

Hi everyone,

It has been a while since I have posted on here.  Since my last post I have finished my chemo, started Tamoxifen and my hair has grown back.  It has been 4 months since my last chemo treatment and 3 months since I started Tamoxifen.

But I am finding life too hard to cope with at times....major fatigue, just driving my kids to school sends me to bed when I get home.  Has anyone else had this happen to them post chemo?  If so, do you have any advice for me, please.

My brain feels like mush, I tried to cook dinner tonight....a meal I have made 100s of times and it was like I was cooking a new meal.

Hoping to hear from you,

Jayne

  • Hi Julia,

Thanks for your reply.  It is good to know that I am not going crazy.  I can't believe the fatigue so when I go back for my yearly mammogram in a few weeks I am going to ask my surgeon if he has any suggestions.

If I find out anything interesting I'll let you know.

    Cheers and stay cool,

    Jayne

  • Hi Jayne,

I finished chemo around the same time as you and am feeling totally exhausted every day.  I know I am not sleeping as well as after 3 months of tamoxifen I have not had one good night's sleep due to feeling hot and having to use a fan in the night and frequent waking.  I have just postponed my return to work by 3 months as I feel I could not handle it yet. So I do not have any answers just solidarity!

  • Hi Jayne, you're not alone in reporting fatigue during and after chemo (not that that really helps, right? ;). There's a little bit of info on the 'chemotherapy' page in our website that might help, it's here: http://www.bcna.org.au/new-diagnosis/treatment/chemotherapy.

The other thing you can do if you want to read any of the older posts, is just type 'fatigue' into the search bar up the top of the page (just above the main navigation), and the results will show you other blog posts where people talk about fatigue.

Hope that helps -- maybe have a chat to your health team too, and see if they have any suggestions. Hope you find something that works for you.
