Post Bilateral Mastectomy Tightness

I had my bilateral mastectomy 12 days ago. Apart from getting the worst flu I have ever had, I am finding the tightness across my chest difficult to tolerate. Nothing is mentioned about this in any of the reference guides I was given. It is driving me insane and restricting movement. Monday I go back to work so I have no choice but to drive.....Anyone have any useful tips?

  • So sorry you are feeling so pooly. Try Moo Goo (health shop)  it is marvelous but I still have tightness and my bilateral mastectony was July 3rd. My chest area is still numb for needles (had several seratomas that needed draining). It's not painfull but it's not comfortable and a constant reminder that I have no breasts.

    Good Luck

  • It sounds like you are quite uncomfortable you poor thing. Did you see a physio in hospital? There are exercises that can be done to help with this but it can often take a while for things to improve. Even now (17 months after a single mastectomy) I find that my chest gets tight if I don't do the stretches everyday. If you feel that it maybe difficult to drive with things how they are then maybe you should delay your return to work and see a physio for assistance with this. Hope things start to improve soon for you. Deanne xxx
