Port a cath

Has anybody had their port a cath removed before the end of their treatment? I had mine put in early November and it is still painful when I move my arm, drive, sleep to the point it is making me miserable. I have one more session of AC before I start 12 cycles of weekly. Placlitaxel and a year of herceptin but I'm now thinking a needle in my hand has to better than this port in my chest. Thoughts ?
  • Hi there,

Have you had it checked out? My Port can be uncomfortable at times in the wrong postiion and is certainly a nuisance but it is not at all painful. If it were, I would agree that a drip might be better, but you do have a long way to go and I wonder how your veins will hold up. I would be asking the doctors why it is painful? (if you havent already) Maybe they can fix it.

I hate the damn things but I would do the same thing over. For you it sounds like a different story.
