plastic surgery

today is my appointment with the plastic surgeon to see if it is possible to do a reconstruction at the same time as the mastectomy i didn't think it would worry me having my boob removed but the more i think about it the more it does ,its not about vanity its more about being lop sided and a constant reminder that i have cancer ...does that sound crazy ...... the last week has been really draining emotionally with seeing my husband peter loosing control and breaking down telling me he couldn't bear loosing me ..... it broke my heart..... i reassured him though that i have no intentions on going anywhere and that i feel confident i can beat this horrid disease .....i must admit i was traveling along fine until then its hard watching someone you love feeling so helpless the poor poppet you see i'm lucky i have some really great friends who have all been so supportive and i feel blessed to have so many people that care about me where as peter even though he has friends has never really been able to show his emotions to anyone other than me..... so during the week i messaged a few of them and asked them to get in contact with him and give him some support i'm hoping he will lean on some of them..... luckily zak and ryan are taking it well mind you with your kids if you come across strong they feel more secure.......any way ill let you know how it all goes when i get back

luv to all

  • Hi Shaz,

I was really upset about losing my breast but because it was a recurrence I  just wanted it off as soon as possible and then deal with the rest later . I was surprised how ok I was when I looked at my chest after surgery-maybe high on pills! I got fitted with a prosthesis and honestly I forget about it once I'm dressed- it looks natural and even.I'm a bit paranoid that the cancer could come back in the scar line so won't think about reconstruction for the moment. I had to alter some clothes that had low necklines else you'd see a concave area and scar.I don't like looking at my scar so undress and dress quickly.I won't go naked full stop!!!But otherwise I have come to terms with it and so has my husband. He has been amazing,my rock. From time to time I think about reconstruction but am nowhere near ready(if ever).I had my mastectomy last May. Just thought you'd  like to hear the lopsided point of view! Good luck with your decision and surgery.
