Hi Kara, I was given the choice of either further partial surgery to take extra margins or a full mastectomy. My consultant though recommended the latter, as while radical, it offers greater ability to catch all possible malignant cells.
It was the right decision for me. The pathology from the mastectomy revealed a secondary unrelated breast pre-cancer that did not show up in the earlier analysis. The surgery therefore got rid of both.
I have no regrets. I had an immediate reconstruction and am really happy with the results so far.
