Hello Gosia
Sorry to read of your drawn out diagnosis and it is indeed fortunate that you had a change of GP and that he sent you to a breast specialist. Now you are aware of what you actually do have and that its not a guessing game anymore take comfort from this. Dont worry how your breast will look with all this surgery as it will heal and fade on the surgery lines. You have had a bit of a shock after thinking you had to wait until you were 40 etc and that it was a fibroid and now you have to hope that it does not return but a close eye on you by the medical fraternity should keep you on the safe side.
A return for me will mean an instantaneous mastectomy but until then I prefer to think I am doing okay as of the last check up mid year I was all clear and now 3 years down the track. It does not mean that it will not return but I know not to waste time seeking medical advice should I find anything suspicious. Mine grew from the chest wall so that is why it was not found until it was the size of a guinea pig! Like you in the shower one day and it had grown to this size in between my mamo and ultra sounds and the hospital checked my previous tests to see if they had missed something but there was no sign of it. They have a rapid growth rate.
I hope you have successful clear margins with the second surgery. I dont have this so while it might be the best option, it was not possible to do this for me and I only have a 1mm, a 3 mm and a 10mm margin so at first I wondered about these miserable margins of mine but I dont anymore.
All good wishes to you and take heart that there are a few of us on here that have come through it all.
Keep us posted Gosia and thinking of you.
