Hi Kristy, I was quite scared when I went for the lumpectomy as I had done a lot of reading. My sister and sister in law are both sonographers and knew what phyllodes was and told me that it must be removed, they also asked the opinions of medical specialists that they worked with at the time. Everyone was very supportive and treated it as something quite serious. Unfortunately phyllodes even when benign have the potential to become malignant and occasionally have spread, if wide margins are not obtained they also have a high recurrence rate. They are classed as a sarcoma rather than breast cancer. You should get a message in your inbox to say you have been added to the phyllodes tumour support group. Hope this helps Cheers Katie.
