Hi there,
I am completely new to your blog, but have been very moved by what I have read. I had a Phyllodes Tumour removed about a week ago. Intial pathology indicates that it's a low grade tumour, but I was astounded at the size - a full 5cm, bigger than a golf ball. From what I have read above, my experience has been easier than many of you brave ladies. My surgeon was able to move tissue around in such a way that my right breast is only half a cup size smaller than my left and it has retained its shape. I had a 2cm fibroadenoma removed from my left breast at the same time. Being 34, I had never imagined myself as having something like this. Needless to say, it has been a real learning experience. My work has been very supportive, as have my family and friends, who I am very blessed to have.
I have also been surprised to see how rare Phyllodes Tumours are and how little information there is about them available. So naturally I was very pleased to find your group. I have been trying to speak as openly about my experience to as many women around me as possible, for them to get themselves screened.
It's only been a week and I don't know if this is going to be a life changing experience. I don't have kids as yet and it has made me seriously think about making that decision sooner. I've also been questioning the wisdom of putting my career at the centre of my life as I have done for the last 10 years.
I love the idea that so many of you are setting goals and challenges and I'm hunting around for some of them myself at the moment, although will need to be a bit more fully healed before I hit the gym.
Strength and love to you all, strangers in person but sisters in experience.
