Phyllodes just diagnosed - new research
Hi Everyone, I am 35 yrs old and my name is Michelle and I live in Canada. I grew up in South Africa and moved here 5 years ago. I found this blog reading Katie's posts dating back to 2010, so not from Australia but I could not find any groups in Canada. I was diagnosed with phyllodes last week and had a simple lumpectomy two weeks before on January 16, for a misdiagnosed fibroadenoma which turned out phyllodes. My surgeon has just referred me to a breast specialist as I did not have any margins taken and will have to have re exision hopefully soon. I have done alot of research the past weeks trying to come to understand this tumor. I guess it helps me to process this all. I had a difficult road the past two weeks including hemmorage (internal bleeding) during first operation, emergency surgery 4 hours later to drain it, and then a ruptured hematoma a week and a half post-op. The latter was a good thing as my breast healed immensely and I am almost healed enough to undergo another surgery. I wanted to share some recent information with you about research finding genetic drivers for phyllodes just two weeks ago. See link - http://www.mcancer.org/news/archive/new-sequencing-technique-reveals-genetic-clues-rare-breast-tumors
I am very new to this disease and would love to hear anyone's stories. I am still finding my way around how to post and read but I am sure I will get there. Prayer for all of you.
Michelle
