peace of mind

It's 6 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer.I've had a mastectomy,recostruction and a hysterctomy (I have the BRAC1gene)

I can't shake the feeling that every little pain or unusual feeling I have is another kind of cancer. I have lots of sleepness nights and often get a nervous sick feeling in the pit of stomach thinking it's come back somewhere else.

Does anyone else feel like this ?

How do you cope with it ?

I don't want to spend the rest of my life with this on my mind.

It's affecting the people around me and my quality of life

  • Hi Denise,

I can identify with what you are saying.  It is 5 years since I had my mastectomy, chemo and radiation.  I have times when I feel quite uneasy, restless and wondering what is going to happen next.  I am always having conversations in my head, telling myself that all is ok.

I find the best thing is to keep busy.  At the moment I am quite in control I think.  I had a few days away from the usual routine to relax, swim, walk and eat out.   It was lovely.  Now I am home again and have spent a lot of time, early mornings and late afternoons gardening. I find I am really enjoying what I am doing each day.  I do work mostly on weekends though.

I don't think we ever stop thinking about what we have been through and wondering when it will rear its ugly head again.  I have thought about it every day since I was diagnosed.  Life is a bit of a rollercoaster now, as far as mood goes but we have to stay positive, positive, positive.

I hope you can find something that will help put you at ease so you can enjoy each day.  All the best,   Jill   xx
