Pain after axillery node surgery ??

Hi

It's been one week today since my surgery for axillary node dissection and I'm struggling with the pain.

The last few days the pain has been getting worse. In saying this the numbness areas has lessened so I'm wondering is that why the pain is increasing as I can feel it more now. I've been on panadol and ice and getting by, but have had bad patches where it's been real hard

I've still got my drain in, go back tomorrow for results in nodes, praying and believing for clear nodes. I don't think there is infection, has anyone else had similar recovery to me etc.

Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

Cheers, Karen ??

  • Hi Karen

Reading your post made me remember back to January when I had axillary dissection also. The numbness began to improve after a couple of weeks but I clearly remember the pain of my skin! All down the back of my arm and side. Rather like a severe burn. It wasn't red or swollen but the pain was so uncomfortable it hurt to touch....even clothing hurt touching my skin. I was told that it was the nerves repairing. It is completely fine now.

I felt much better after I got the drain out too. Do your arm exercises that the physio and doctor give you too as this helps you recover and keeps your movement in your arm.

Such a lot to think about at this time. Best wishes for speedy and good results today!!
