Over a year!

So this time last year I was running around getting poked and prodded prior to starting chemo. At the start of it all my friend gave me a large groovy box and advised to keep everything in it. I took her advise and can honestly I'm glad I did. The first things to go in the box were all the leaflets you get when first diagnosed. I shoved them in there to hide them away until I was ready to look at them. The next thing to go in was all the get well cards from friends and family. Then it was the letters from the hospital with all my various appointments (this was really useful as my head was completely shot and if I put them straight in the box, I always knew where to find them!). I was looking through the box the other day (it's now stuffed so full the lid won't shut) and it brought back so many memories and made realise just how far I've come! When I first started the box I thought my life was over, now I feel like I've got a second chance and don't intend wasting it! Me and hubby had a lovely few days in Singapore our first proper holiday in 9 years and to draw a line under the last year, I had a Zombie Apocalypse party with some of my friends who've shown me so much support through my treatment. Needless to say we took it very seriously and tried to outdo each other with our outfits and various fake scabs and wounds! In other news my hair is growing back really quickly, I've dyed it blonde to hide the grey (it used to be brown) unfortunately it's grown back with a bit of a curl and seems to only grow straight up, it won't go to the side and I look I'm in a really bad 70s hairspray commercial!

  • I have what I call my 'cancer box' and it's bursting with all the paperwork that is gathered in this process. I started it because I got sick of finding brochures and appointment cards all over the house. When I looked back through it, it was kind of like a diary of the last year. Glad you had a nice holiday and party, take care,

  • Hi Chris I read your post and I smiled, I have a box that I brought at the beginning and yes it is nearly full. I have finished chemo and had a mastectomy and reconstruction in August, I have booked in to make my saggy boob even with perky, so still have a way to go. I loved your comment about your hair mine is growing back really curly as well, and my hairdresser and I decided to go blond as well, great feeling to be making choices about the little things like the colour of my hair.Keep smiling
