Ovaries removal - your experience
Hi
I am in my early 40th and due to have my ovaries removed soon.
I would like to hear from members who had their ovaries removed - what kind of impact it made? any mood changes, bone density problems? Medications they need to take?
I am confident I want to go ahead with this procedure and will appricate any "real life" stories.

- PS, getting rid of that estrogen was the main game.
- Mine are gone, but I'm 53. The last step into menopause was a doozy, but I was almost there anyway. 6 months on, meh, still feel like shit, but the there are other things contributing to that. Marg
- @KatyJoy Have you had genetic testing to see if gene pos? I guess that would help with decision making if to remove or not. I was worried about ovarian cancer but gene negative so they are just left intact now doing not much.
- Sorry, didn't mention onc is worried about how removing my ovaries would affect my bone health later
- Hi, I'm interested in this as I'm currently trying to convince my oncologist to have my ovaries removed but she's advised me to think about it for 6 months. I'm 42 and have to be on hormone therapy for 10 years anyway. Both of my grandmothers died of ovarian cancer, one 63 and one 87.
- Hi @tul, like @Cate64 I have had no adverse reactions to having my ovaries removed (early March this year). Don't feel any different at all. It was a day procedure - took a few days to recover, but all good.
- Hi @tul, had my ovaries removed in June last year, had no impact on me at all. Surgery in the morning & stay overnight, but really there was no need for it, I was ready to go home, hospital is no place to get any sleep, much prefer my own bed.
