Operation 101

I will be going into hospital at 1pm today and then having my operation at 3pm.

I have asked the anesthetist to give me as many drugs as possible to knock me out and he assured he would do his best to ensure that I stayed “in la la land” as long as possible after the procedure before having to face the post-operative reality.

I am trying to be very positive and am thinking of all the things I should be grateful before going in today:

1.       My husband and children
2.       All my family and friends
3.       My (relatively) early diagnosis
4.       A world-class hospital just 500 metres from my front door
5.       My surgeon and all the other wonderful professionals at the very same hospital
6.        My Samsung Galaxy S4 (yes it’s not an iphone but it’s my lifeline to my family and friends)
7.       I still have a job and will be able to continue working from home as long as it takes for me to fully recover
8.       The TV and computer/internet – the world’s best distractions (and they’re almost free)
9.       Bruce Springsteen (his music “saved” me when I was a  teenager and will undoubtedly do the same again now)!
10.   All the medical research that makes my diagnosis/prognosis so much better than for women like me just 10-20 years ago

I am sure I will ultimately be fine but am, as usual, more than a little scared - this is not the sort of 'boob job' I've always dreamt about.
