One micromet +/- taxol ... anyone else?

Hi All,

Lets see. 3 grade 1 tumours removed + one precancerous thingy still in there. One micro-met found in one sentinel node => axillary clearance.

Largest tumour is 1.8mm, and met. is 0.4mm.

I'm stage 1, unless you add all the tumours together, and then I'm stage II.

10 nodes removed, not a speck of cancer! Yay!

Now my surgeon had spoken to an oncologist who had told her that if they were clear, there would only be 12 weeks of chemo.

For various reasons, saw a different oncologist who said 12 weeks of AC and then 12 weeks of Taxol. So I'm assuming the difference is +/- Taxol based on whether you think my micro-met makes me node positive or not.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? And what were you prescribed?

    Thanks Kathy and Mich,

      since my last post I guess I've been through a grieving process for those lost 3 months. I've spoken to a couple of nurses on the cancer helpline and to my GP. I toyed with the idea of a second opinion but I've come to terms with the plan now, and a second opinion might just throw my into more dissaray.

    Kathy, I had partial mastectomies but I have to have the wholelot off after chemo. Its been a very bumpy ride. The original plan was partial mastectomies and radiotherapy, every thing over by Auguast and back to life as normal.Now I've already had two operations and two more to go with 6 months of chemo in the middle. No radiotherapy. And if we're lucky, we get our lives back in April. But who knows? Nothing mu surgeon has told me has turned out to be true.

    You probably had a tumour > 2cm or a metastisis > 2mm, Kathy?? That would make you stage 2. You see, I have neither, which is where the difference of opinion comes in with the oncologists.

    The precancerous thing was found by MRI, followed by MRI directed biopsy. Due to farcial incompetence of the radiologist, they didn't manage to clip the thing, so my surgeon couldn't get it out. If I wasn't having complete mastectomy next year, it would have to be clipped again and then open biopsied.

    Oh well, its all very sad making.

    Hey chibipink

    Congrats on the rest of your nodes being clear, that is great.  I had two nodes with micrometases and then had total axillary and no further cancer found so I was also happy with that.

    I guess the grading is different because you had more than one tumour involved??

    I can't help you with what you have been prescribed but I just wanted to wish you well and hopefully you will have it all sorted, confirmed and able to put a plan together.
