One down many to go!

Hi all in pink lady land!,

I began my chemo treatment yesterday with very few hitches! Yeah one down! I began with my first AC -  the A - Adriamycin. The lovely rasberry one!! Nearly out of my system a day later!!  This was followed by the C - Cycloblastin. I had no immediate side effects as I was doped up with anti nausea medication which has covered me for the last 24 hours.  All up it  took 4.5 hours from when I got in there to when we left the hospital.  I have my second in 3 weeks time followed by 2 weeks then another 2 weeks. Two weeks after this I begin my second course - Paclitaxel combined with herceptin. This goes for 12 weeks - once a week!  The herceptin then continues for 1 year with regular heart checks. Very busy then until the end of the year but at least we have a plan and we can take mini breaks away when we can to feel normal.  I am blessed with a fantastic team at St John of God in Subiaco, Perth. Wonderfully supportive and only a phonecall away. Very comforting!

Thought I'd touch base and I hope all is going well or as well is can for all of you. My thoughts are with you all as we embark on this journey. I know I'm not alone which is such a comfort.

Take care

I woke up this morning feeling quite good but I'm still not sleeping very well - waking up very early unable to get back to sleep. The metalic taste which I've heard about has appeared but for now it is bearable.

  • Thanks Susan and Leonie for your kind messages. Day 2 after chemo and the nausea is starting to hit a little harder. I'm also not sleeping that well with a lot on my mind. I'm going to start meditation on Tues with a friend so hopefully that will help. Apart from the nausea and constant tiredness I'm ok, touch wood! I've also decided to reduce my days at work to 4 as all my treatement days are a Friday and I will be starting these every fortnight after the next round then every week as of early October. This is when I'll begin the Paclitaxel and herceptin combined.

Wishing you all the very best for the start of yours Susan! Thinking of you.
