Hi Tracey,
Yes it is a very stressful time and I hear your struggle with both the decision and your condition, (my daughter is Bipolar as well) making it even more so to deal with it.
I too am faced with a bi lateral mastectomy and reconstruction after my chemo ends. I made my decision to go ahead with it based on the fact that #1. After referring my case to his consultant board, my surgeon recommended it due to the nature and size of my tumour, Stage 3, Grade 2, Hormone receptive, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, positive nodes, my tumour was 70mm (7 cm) . #2 My family history and the likelihood of it returning in my other breast and #3 Armed with all of that, it's really a no brainer for me. I too am large breasted (14HH) and the thought of having one only is just ridiculous as I too don't believe I could match it either! But "reduction" of that breast can be done.
Yes it is your body, but like you have said there are risks.....The important thing here is to trust your team too, they are referring your case to ensure you get the best possible care and outcome for your situation and well being at the end of it. If it is not what you want to hear, can I suggest you ask to have the remaining breast "reduced" to a more comfortable size to get a prosthesis to match?
Best wishes for your appointment and treatments.
-Tracy xx
