The medical oncologist will go through your chemo and Herceptin schedule. They will give you info about the chemo you will be having and what side effects to expect. They will also explain about getting your blood tested before each chemo to make sure your blood count is ok. They will also give you prescriptions for any medications you will need and explain when you need to take them. My oncologist wrote down the info about the medications for me, as it is so hard to remember everything.
I kept a written diary of any side effects I had so that the oncologist could adjust medications to help with these. One important question would be what to do if you have a problem after your chemo. I was given 2 phone numbers to ring if I had a problem (eg vomiting more than twice, getting a temp of 38 or more).
The radio oncologist will go through what happens when you have your radiation treatment. They will tell you at what stage you will need to have your planning appointment. This is usually just before your last chemo session. It will be a while before you start radiotherapy so you will get more info and another chance to ask questions closer to the starting date.
Hope your appointments go well and good luck for starting chemo. Take care. Deanne xxx
