On the way to recovery

So it's day 2 after my bilateral skin sparring mastectomy with tissue expanders, wow what a mouthful. I have to say it wasn't as bad as I was anticipating, pain is bearable but the drugs are good, doctor nurses and all staff at Mercy Private have been amazing. I am still waiting for results for the lymph node biopsy but my surgeon isn't expecting any surprises. The weight has been lifted from my shoulders and for the first time in 8 weeks I have peace in my mind :)

  • Hi Anne,

Sorry to hear of the set-back but glad to hear that you are healing well. Just remember to do your physio-type exercises and put cream on the scars [when allowed]. I used goats milk cream, others have used bio-oil, up to you . . . keep getting better, okay! I had so many questions to ask the Surgeon/Onc that I used to remember in the middle of the night [and couldn't remember in the morning - early onset of chemo brain?] so kept a notepad near the bed. Whatever works for you.

Remember that there are so many people here sending you healing thoughts, good luck, will be thinking of you on Monday

  • Hi Helen, Yes I do have that kit but I didnt bring it into hospital with me, could've given me something to do. I am recovering very well from the mastectomy which is good, I have started writing some notes to take on Monday and my husband will come with me. Thought my journey was over but look like it's just beginning. Anne
