hi,your story sounds all to familiar. I am 42 Years old and l just happened to go for a routine mamogram just because l thought l needed too( because l was in my forties) This one mamagram saved me. What they found was Dcis and at that point it was only in one place. Their recommendation was a lumpectomy with radiotherapy. They went ahead with this procedure, and a week later when pathology came back and l went in to see my surgeon, he told me they also found extensive Dcis and a 8mm invasive tumor. l was in shock, because all along they reassured me it was just Dcis ( and they kept saying Dcis is not refered to as a cancer) That is when they decided a mastectomy is what l needed and that went ahead. Anyway results came through it wasnt in the lymph nodes, therefore no chemo or radio was recommended, but l am required to take tamoxifen.All of this happened in March and April of this year, how time flies, but it still seems raw and l do still have my teary moments at times.I found the draining tubes pretty much a nuisance and painful when they came out, especially because l had two.I recovered pretty quickly and returned to work three weeks later, which l now regret (thats another story)
