Off to St George Hospital - the leap of faith

have you ever watched the Indiana jones movie the last crusade where Indiana has to cross over to the other side but there is no bridge to cross, so he takes a leap of faith, well that's me tomorrow, taking a leap of faith into the arms of the cancer clinic for chemo, with stage 3 triple negative and no lymph node interference, the aggressive ductile bastard has no choice but for me to go down this path, but it ain't sitting easy in my head. I think from the moment I found this lump every stage has been tough and drepressing, it's amazing to see who your real friends are, even family members who you think would be there for you  aren't, I get it, they have their own lives to live too.

I'll step out the door tomorrow anxious and nervous, hopefully I walk back in calmer and stronger.

  • Thank you Chriss :)

Plan is not to work for the duration of it - stopping mid next week just in case and already have a bix of masks ready. Hubby promissed to wear them at his work so not to bring anything home. I am allergic to mist antibiotics so I am hoping he keeps his word.

Thank you again for sharing the tonsilitis bit. I thought of UTIs maybe and seasonal colds or trush but tonsils never ocuured to me and that is one of my more common ailments as is... will keep an eye out for any changes I guess...

  • Thanks for the advise I will take that water bottle along with me.... Will see how it all pans out, xx

  • Hi Christine, oh gee what challenges we go thru!! what a piece of shit that man is, not only is your daughter dealing with bc but to put up with such ugly comments oh my heart breaks for you all ?? I love how strong and supportive you are for your family and yes I believe in karma it will bite you one day, but sometimes it takes too long lol. And of course I think we will always be looking over our shoulder and thinking about the nasty bc returning but 8 years on you are doing well. I wish I could say I love my job, it's just a job paying the bills, I work in legal (don't shoot me lol) as a secretary in litigation let's just say that it's the most stressful job I've ever had, demanding, deadline driven and unrewarding. I made my 10 years long service on 3 April and 7 April have been off on sick leave (good timing). So I know what you must be forking out, barristers alone charge like crazy! But you got to protect your family, keep up the fight and keep on being strong Sophie xx

  • At least you can get chemo local. That's a bonus than having to travel an hour or more to and fro. Best recommendation  I can make is take a water bottle with you and drink tons of it especially when you get out of chemo. I was like a camel when I got out and thought my throat had stuck together. All the best and hope you leave wondering what all the worry and fuss was about as you breezed it! XXXXX

  • Hi Jel, everyone is different in regards to their treatment, for me the 1st AC I felt fine, well that's what I thought until I went for blood tests for my 2nd chemo and they found I had tonsillitis and high temperature (which I thought were mouth sores and hot flushes due to chemo) so in hospital I went.  You need to be really really careful especially with this weather we are having, I suggest you wear a mask and keep away from seeing too many people, avoid crowds and just drink lots and lots of water.  In saying that I spent all of January isolated at home, only went out for my chemo.

Good luck and let us know how you go.

    Chriss xx

  • Hang in there Sophie... and if you ever need a friendly shoulder or just someone to be your sounding board yell out as I am local to St George

    Hugs

    Jel.

  • Chris, do you mind if I ask how you went with AC Chemo and if you had many issues with infections?

I too will be having 4 rounds of AC starting 1.5 weeks from now and must say infections have been on my mind as the Oncologist kind of took it for granted they are unavoidable and with me being allergic to just about every antibiotic there is I am getting very anxious about it. Good or bad, it would be great to hear what others that have gone through it think about that side of it and what their experience has been - if not physically I guess I can prepare mentally for what is coming....

  • Oh that "leap of faith" we have all taken that.... Good luck tomorrow Sophie just one day at a time, I'll be there too tomorrow but for my plan for radiation, you see I thought that after 4 AC chemos, a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with implants my journey would be over but no they found another microscopic cell so now 5 weeks of radiation for me.

    Good luck xxx

Hi Sophie, it is a huge step, just take it 1 treatment at a time and it will pass more easily for you. You'll be in good hands, they keep a very close and gentle eye on you.

Sending you a huge cuddle and good vibes, Trace ????????
