Now officially a 'Nude Nutt'

So.. survived (so far) my second round of Chemo... a little (well not so little) bout of nausea and the dredded fatigue.. but most (importantly?) I'm now officially a 'Nude Nutt'. Had enough of my hair falling out so my wonderful husband shaved it off this afternoon.... I actually feel liberated!  Once I got over the idea that I had BC... and that I would loose your hair it was easy....

Now.. why does my celebratory glass of wine taste so horrible??

  • Hi Yasmin

Loved the Look Good .. Feel Good session... it was just what  I needed. I had a crappy day yesterday so today was fabulous. In fact what I thought would only be a morning out ended up being a most of the day... my friend Julie, who I met on this site, and I went out for lunch afterwards... Yes... lots of free stuff and I'm keen to go to Sparkles and try/play around with turbans and scalves more.

Most importantly I finally looked at my head without crying and feeling sad for what use to be. In fact I 'modelled' some of the wigs and turbans...loved the sparlkly blue one.. will try and post the picture later. Some ladies I've talked to are letting their hair fall out on its own.. (after going super short)... but that wasn't for me... I'm please that it's gone and for some reason my scalp no longer hurts. So.. take it easy... and let me now how you go.

take care.. I'll be thinkng of you.

Good luck with the shave... I felt better for it. As much as I hated the idea the hair falling out everywhere was driving me crazy.  I still feel 'odd'... and my head is a little prickly in areas but my wig fits better and I feel better. Just remember to moisturise and sun block!!

  • Hey ladies!

Have seen a few women suggest the headcover website.  Will check it out myself tonight! I like the olive oil and goats milk idea's!  Thanks!!

I went to look good feel better a few weeks ago and it was amazing.  Channel 9 was there as well doing a well deserved segment and so my face was seen quite a bit throughout it, when it was shown onthe telly!  I loved the workshop.  Got so much out of it! Lovely, Lovely women!!!!

Round 2 of chemo this Thursday, with 2 more following 3 weeks apart and then once a week for 12 weeks!  Not sure of radiation, as am waiting for genetic testing results which will decide all of that for me!

Can I just say, how nice it is to converse with you!  Its nice that you, ladies know what its like (unfortnetly).  We have such great support with family and friends, but sometimes its hard to explain feelings and thought! So THANK YOU!

I look forward to hearing and conversing with you all, while we go through our journey!

Take care and enjoy the workshop Trina.

  • Hi ladies, my hair is thinning but because it is so fine I am just letting it wisp out a bit more.  I have had a Nos 4 blade put through (with a lot of laughter).  My scalp was like itchy sunburn after chemo one.  After I had the blade put through I put some olive oil on my head and gently massaged.  My mum used to do this to us when we were kids because we were in the ocean and water so much.  Felt great and now no more itchy soreness.  Just walked around with any oily head for a day then washed it out at night.

My oncologist suggested goats milk soap as a gentle scalp cleanser.  And moisturise when needed.

I get around without a hat.  But I have started an assortment of skull caps and hats for the cold days and nights.  Currently loving my merino skull cap.  Soft and warm in the chilly evening. Also like the headcovers.com site - American site with lots of head gear etc for cancer patients.  My caps arrived in 2 days - and are fabulous.   Have decided since I am not going back to work I wont worry about the wig.

I use weak green tea with a slice of ginger; or weak apple cider vinegar with a touch of honey and arrowroot biscuits to keep the nausea at bay.  Also following the "chemo 101" advise of small meals every 2 hours.  Havn't resorted to back up maxalon yet, but I will if I need too.

Missing my wine in the evening.  Got a big NO from the oncologist as I am super sensitive to the steroids and alcohol will be bad.  So I just live vicariously through everyone else.  14 more chemos and 6 weeks radiation and I am going to have a celebratory glass.

Enjoy the look good feel better workshop.  I went last week with my sister. Lots of laughter and good tips.

Take care and be gentle on yourselves

  • Hi Yasmin... I've just been reading your blog.. and feeling for you... I had my second round of Chem Thursday .. every 3 weeks for 12 weeks then I move onto weekly for 9 weeks... sound similar?

This round hasn't been to bad...but the nausea has been worse... oh and the hair.... It was probably day 14 after my first treatment that it started breaking off... I then had it shaved to a number 2 (about 2 or so cm in length).. it then started moulting slowly mainly when I was in the shower..and after when I was drying it. Yes parts of my scalp were to sore to touch, itchy... odd (unbearable at times)... but last night (round 2 day 2) it just started to fall out big time in the shower and on my towel... I'd had enough..It was thin and very white/grey - ugly. So today (when my son was on a play date) my husband first used his beared trimmer then a couple of razers to get rid of it.

My oncologist said to moisturise with cheap moisturiser.. I had some Billy Goat stuff that smells and feels divine so I'm using that.

It's gone.. but it will come back... a sign that this 'thing'... is nearly over!!! My skin is also crap... dry and red.... Monday I'm off to a Look Good.. Feel Better session and looking forward to it!! and shortly.. I'm going looking for a beer!!

take care and let me know how you are going.... we're all in this together.

    Trina
