Hi, Went today to have my heart checked and talked to the Chemo nurse as i start my Chemo this Thursday. She was fantastic told me all the drugs being used and what to expect, and sent me home with lots of info. My Chemo regime is FEC-D Now i know when people write these sort of codes that this means what drugs you will have. If anyone else is on this regime and have started i would love to hear about it. Hi Jody. I also had FEC-D as my treatment. It is all so overwhelming at first. I had 3 rounds on the FEC ( which is the initials of 3 chemo drugs), followed my the D which for me stood for taxotare. If you want any info feel free to PM me. Im happy to offer any advise. When do you start treatment? I can offer you lots of advise on what helped me through chemo. Im a mum with 3 kids and managed treatment ok, wasn't plesant but I coped. There are plenty of things you can do to get through it. xo Christie.

Hi Jody, I was diagnosed on April 3, 2013 and started FEC April 30, 2013. I am now into my 8th day. I am sure there are many anxious moments for you. For me the fear of the unknown was the most overwhelming feeling. There is no text book to prepare yourself for how you are going to feel. Every experience is unique. There is so much written about the power of staying positive and for me in my 8th day, I believe it. When I was told that I had to have chemo to shrink my 7cm tumour prior to surgery, I was gutted. I had invisaged surgery and radiation therapy but never once had entertained the possibility of having chemo. I was more afraid of the chemo and the side effects than the actual cancer. Crazy! I then shifted my focus and I daily tell myself (ever so gently) that chemo is not my enemy, it doesn't want to make me uncomfortable, it is just doing the only thing it needs to do to enable me to have a longer,full, healthier life. try gargling bi carb soda and water every day several times. it saved my mouth from ulcers. I still got the horrid feeling but no sores.

Thankyou all for your comments its great to read, I feel better this morning, but last night started the ulcers on my tongue, OH well one symptom gone another comes.

I know it's written often, but other than anti-nausea medication, I found fruit tingles and peppermint tea really helpful.

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Hi, Just nauseated and not eating much, but i did have a good tea tonight so hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

My next round is on the 22nd. Appointment with the oncologist on the 15th and then portacath on the 17th. There are just so many appointments! I work part-time from home, so can manage it all (and the week where I couldn't do anything) but I am not sure how others do it all.

Hope you are feeling better now that you are a couple of days down the track.

Yep the actual treatment was easy, and boring, 1 1/2 hours after i finished bang came the nausea - hate it.

Good luck for next round mine is the 30th.

Hi Jody,

I am only slightly ahead of you. I am on the same regime and started my treatment last Wednesday. My next chemo is on the 22nd.

The firs week was rough for me. In some ways the fatigue was the worst. I had no idea how all encompassing it could be. The good news is that a week after my chemo I am feeling good, postive and back to my normal life.

Next week I get a port-a-cath inserted because it was clear that my veins won't stand up to the treatment.

I know that I can get through these treatments, and I know that you can too!

Holding your hand in spirit. Remember to take big breaths and you will get through it. Ask questions, the nurses are usually very good at answering you and helping ease your mind.
