Next step

hi all and hugs all round
has been a while since I have been on here other than a quick browse and search.
Just an update on where I'm at today and what has gone down so far
i finished my 4x 3weeklies and went onto do the weekly run. But had to stop at no7. The toes went numb and the pins and needles were making it difficult to get moving, and my fingers not as much could still do up buttons. My bones and joints are aching but bearable as long as I don't over do things.
So I am now booked for surgery on the Ist of May. Had my ultrasound and mammogram gone from 22 x 19 x13 mm to 16 x 19 x 17 mm. Report says slightly smaller. Don't know what I was expecting but hey surgeon has gone from partial mastectomy and reconstruction to a wide excision. Which will leave me with a wide cleavage, to So has to be good. It is still tethered to my skin and muscle and has vascularity (whatever that means).
I have been so tired it has been a struggle to keep up with the demands of an 11 year old. FACS have been fantastic as a foster child he comes with his own issues. They have organised additional mentoring sessions of an afternoon and this week he is at 4 day camp. It's been too too nice only having to consider myself.
Back at it tomorrow when I get him home. Just in time for me to phsyc myself up ready for surgery.
Got to have the dye test for which lymph glands are coming out at 8:30am on the day of surgery not at all sure what goes on there. I have just been trusting my team and doing what I'm told. At first I researched too much for my brain to cope with and got too scared of everything.
Will check back in when I'm free next time

  • Thanks ladies. The marker went in with a struggle and didn't tickle. So as long as it's no worse I'll be fine. I suppose with all the aches pains cramps headaches etc etc it could be much worse. Just hanging to get to my new normal whatever that may be.
  • Good to hear from you. :) The lymph dye doesn't get in real quick so be prepared for a few hours wait before the actual surgery. <3
  • Hey @crankgranny - thinking of you! The dye test is more than likely called a 'scintigraphy'...it involves injecting radioactive dye into your nipple (or around the tumour) and then you massaging it in for  a small while, and then scanning where it drains to.

It took mine about 20 minutes to come up with the node. But everyone is different  :) . They will keep checking and keep telling you to massage!

This helps the surgeon to know where your sentinel lymph node is (the major lymph node). It stings a bit, but tbh I was surprised that it wasn't too bad at all. They then identify the node by putting a X on your skin and sending off the scans so your surgeon knows where to go :).
