Newly diagnosed
Newly diagnosed triple neg just would love to know tips to get through chemo. Also if there is anyone from the Gold Coast and if the new hospital is any good.
Hi Hen,
I'm triple negative as well. I've heard all the bad side of chemotherapy, heard all the cures and lotions and potions and food suggestions and more. I've done exactly what suited me at the time. I was given way to many drugs to cope with chemo. I found that Pramin just knocked me out for days so I stopped taking it. I found that steroids gave me a huge spike then a huge slump so I insisted that they be cut back and half the time I didn't take them.
I then found out that I'm allergic to Endone (morphine) so I don't take that either. I haven't had any nausea whatsoever. I had 3 rounds FEC and 3 rounds Docataxol (Taxotere). I lost my hair, I had a little diahrear at times. I've kept my fingernails painted while having Taxotere. I continued with my university studies and I kept working until my job became redundant.
I am lucky to not have had many side effects I know but I feel that a lot of the suggestions that are made by well meaning patients can produce fear of the unknown to patients who may never need to use any of the suggestions. My best advice is to do what makes you happy, comfortable and healthy. If that involves eating marshmallows while standing on your head at 3am in the morning on the front lawn in a thunderstorm then so be it.
My only other advice is don't live around your cancer. It is an event, it isn't your life.
